This print was one of Moore's earliest graphics and it remains one of his best.
Mel Gooding, Art Review, 1980.
After two series of prints had been produced by leading British artists Rawnsley decided that the third series of lithographs would include work by some of the greatest European artists of the time. Against the background of austerity in post-war Britain and disregarding the pessimism of certain experts she received promises of the considerable capital sum of £10,000 to finance her project. In June 1947 she flew to Paris, met many of her target artists and eventually such names as Picasso, Matisse, Braque, Dufy, Léger and Moore produced lithographs for the School Prints European Series.
